Huron is a small city full of history and perfect for someone who wants to live in complete solitude. Huron was named after the Huron Indians and was established back in the 1880’s as a result of railroad construction. The city of Huron was once in the running to become the state capital, but it lost to Pierre because of Pierre’s prime location; in the center of the state. A popular attraction in Huron is the South Dakota State Fair that is hosted here every year 5 days before labor day. If you’re looking for something to do in the fall months, Huron has some of the best pheasant hunting; welcome to Ringneck nation! The pheasant to human ratio is in your favor if you love to hunt, but make sure you come prepared, there is an annual festival where you can compete in a team hunt!
The weather in Huron, like most of South Dakota, can be a little rough in the winters. You can expect very cold winters with snowfall, not super heavy, but it will happen often enough to cause you some transportation issues. The summer’s are long and dry, you won’t be out playing in the rain in Huron. If you enjoying playing in the snow, this is more the place for you.
